Game Mechanics |
Restoration Process
The game focuses on the recovery and restoration of artifacts. The player will be able to SCUBA dive down to the wreck site, explore the wreck to find artifacts, bring it back to the ship, and work to restore the artifact. The restoration process is loosely modelled after the actual process used by marine archaeologists at their conservation lab in Greenville, NC. The player must X-ray the artifact, then chip off the individual concretions that have grown on the artifact over the last 300 years, and then finally put the artifact into a tank to soak out the chlorides that the artifact absorbed from the salt water.
Flashbacks
After each artifact is restored, the player will get to participate in a flashback to the 1700s, during the short period that Blackbeard was in control of the Queen Anne's Revenge. These flashbacks currently range from short movie sequences to cannon battles to piloting the Queen Anne's Revenge, and more are planned.
Resuming Gameplay
The game was made to be completed in stages. The player will uncover specific artifacts at these stages. We implemented a system in which the player could stop playing the game, and then resume at a later time. This is somewhat similar to the manner in which many games have "checkpoints" throughout the game allowing the player to fail and resume easily.
